LEARNING CAMP - Promoting Academic Success
Hope for the Future’s Learning Camp is a summer program that provides a time of learning enrichment in an enjoyable, pressure-free environment to strengthen basic reading and math skills in Grades K-8. The children are encouraged to have fun while learning values, such as respect for themselves, each other and their teachers. Respect for reading and writing is also emphasized through relevant activities, including current event study, career discussion and nutrition. In this way HFTF serves to build values and character in the children.
Young people in Grades 5-8 enjoy content reading in Science and History, including vocabulary study, comprehension questions and study skills. Younger children learn through the study of animals. A small snack is offered at the end of each session and an award ceremony complete with pizza party is held on the last day.
Since many of these children also attend Hope for the Future’s Operation Explosion (OPX) outreach program, there are opportunities for mentoring and follow-up to impact their lives on a more regular basis.
